Nick Schollmeier

Here is another inspiring runner story from Nick
Schollmeier.

I live in Dillingham with my wife, 3 girls, and my small petting zoo (3 fish, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and a snail).
I have been running competitively since I was in 3rd grade.

Coaching brings me more joy than racing myself.
This is going to be my 3rd year as an xc coach in Dillingham, and I coached xc for 7 years in Elim, AK.

In the past 2 years, I’ve raced 1 mile, 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathons, marathons, and 50ks. They are all fun and challenging in their own way.

The Anchorage Mile presented by Lynden is so fun cause it’s a great course (around the park strip), a fun event for all ages, and it’s over fairly quick.

In the future, I really want to give AK Active Soles back yard ultra a shot…. Seems like a “fun” challenge. I think we runners are lucky to have so many great races in Alaska, year round.

As a master runner, it’s fun to compete with the younger runners and see if the old man legs still have it ;).

Most of my training runs are done by myself. I enjoy falling into the zone and just losing myself in my thoughts and the sound of my footsteps.

Here are a couple of photos from this past year. Anchorage Runfest Skinny Raven Half Marathon (best finisher photo ever), NYC Marathon, and Little Su 50k with my little brother (whom I beat 😉 )
