Another inspiring running story-
We, Izaak Betjes and Ilonka Langeberg are participating in the Humpy’s Marathon and Anchorage Mile. We met each other at the athletic club in our hometown Krommenie, Netherlands.
In 2003, we ran our first marathon in the USA (New York) and since that time we visited the USA about twice a year to take part in some runs while we are traveling. We both love running and the USA. Last May, we ran our 40th marathon in the USA (Colorado Marathon), and also did two ultra’s (Antelope Canyon 50 miler and Goatrun 50K). Also several half marathons, 10k’s and 5k’s throughout the country.
We try to run a marathon in every state and are part of the 50 States Marathon Club. Alaska wil be our 27th state. When we started running, we ran to set PR’s (Izaak ran 2:57 and Ilonka 3:09 on the marathon).
As age is going up (I’m 52 and my husband 56), times are going down and fun is coming more and more on the foreground, as you can see on the picture that is taken in the Baltimore Marathon when we stopped to take a picture with a penguin
Beside the USA, we ran marathons in South Africa (Comrades, Two Oceans), Great Wall, London, Berlin and several in the Netherlands. In total, we are at 69 marathons now.
We hope to do Tokyo marathon in 2025 so we have also completed the world marathon majors.
