RRCA State Championship Event
The 2017 Humpy's Marathon has been designated a Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) State Championship Event. RRCA awards will be presented to the top male and female in each of the following categories: open; masters (40+); grand masters (50+); and senior grand masters (60+).
The 26.2 mile course begins in the heart of downtown Anchorage. Runners head west on 6th Avenue, north on H Street, then straight ahead on Christensen Drive to 2nd Avenue where the course turns left to join the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. They run past Westchester Lagoon, Earthquake Park, Postmark Drive and Point Woronzof. Runners turn around about 100 yards beyond a point known by locals as “the Blue Bridge.” They run back north to Westchester Lagoon where they veer right (east) on the Chester Creek Trail. From the Chester Creek turnaround (the roundabout at the base of the hill beyond, or east of, the bridge to East High School) runners return to the lagoon and head back to the finish line in downtown Anchorage.
The marathon course is USATF certified and it is a Boston Marathon qualifier.
In 2016, 17% of the marathon finishers ran a Boston Marathon qualifying time.
The marathon field is limited to the first 500 entrants.
The marathon starts and finishes on 6th Avenue between F and G Street adjacent to the Performing Arts Center in downtown Anchorage. Start time is 9:00 AM.
The course closes at 3:30 PM. Runners must cross the finish line at 3:30 PM to be considered official finishers. Runners must reach Valley of the Moon Park aid station at mile 23 by 2:30 PM. Transportation from Valley of the Moon Park back to the start/finish area will be provided.
Participants who register for the marathon but need more time to finish than the allotted 6.5 hours, may start early with the walkers. However, if they finish in less than 6.5 hours they will not be ranked nor be eligible for awards.
- Long-sleeve technical shirt
- Finisher's medal
- Professional timing
- Food and beverage at the finish line
RunFest awards are given to the top three over-all male and female finishers as well as the top three male and female finishers in each 5 year age group. Awards will be distributed in Town Square Park. It's official for 2017: the first place male and female marathon finishers will each win a round trip certificate good for systemwide coach travel on Alaska Airlines (excluding Cuba). All awards are based on gun times -- the time elapsed from the sound of the start gun to when a runner crosses the timing mat at the finish line.
Sleeping Lady Challenge
The Anchorage Runfest is one of four Anchorage Running Club yearly events. Successful completion of eligible races in three of these four events can qualify a runner for the unique Sleeping Lady Challenge medal. See more information regarding the Sleeping Lady Challenge.
