Race Director's Message
Welcome — as we begin preparations for the 2016 Anchorage RunFest (ARF)!
Planning for our name change has been in the works since last winter. We believe ARF captures what we have become over the years: a weekend festival of running and fitness related events.
Our 2016 celebration kicks off with movie night on Thursday, followed by two days of our Health and Fitness Expo. Saturday will also feature the Kids’ 2K, The Anchorage Mile, and the Pasta Feed luncheon. Our signature running (and walking) events complete the weekend on Sunday. As more details are determined for 2016, we will post them on the website and make announcements through social media.
If you live in the Lower 48, and are contemplating a trip to the Last Frontier, know that you’ll find ideal running weather, with cool temperatures (mid-50s to mid-60s) in mid-August. This partly accounts for the popularity of our races among runners seeking a great performance near the end of summer. There’s no denying: ARF affords an excellent opportunity to measure and celebrate your fitness. And then, of course, there’s the silver salmon fishing, river rafting, glacier viewing, mountain hiking, backwoods biking, and more — right at our back doorstep — before or after your race. What could be a better way to celebrate the end of summer?
I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks, once again, to our all-volunteer Race Committee, who work year round to help ensure we present the best events possible. Additionally, three cheers to the more than 800 individuals who volunteer on race weekend and truly make this event happen.
Have a wonderful winter!
I hope to see you at the start in August.Sharron Fisherman
