About Us

Race Director's Message

Anchorage RunFest has had a very exciting year, topped by the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) awarding us with the 2016 Road Race of the Year.

The RRCA is a national association of running organizations dedicated to growing the sport of running, developing community-based running clubs, and supporting events that serve runners of all ages and abilities. RunFest met the criteria for this award by being an all volunteer non-profit involving the local community. We thank everyone who helped make RunFest 2016 a great success. We plan to meet the high bar set last summer.

We are thrilled to once again to have several of our races designated as RRCA championship events. The RRCA Championship Event Series, the largest grassroots organized running series in the US, attracts over 320,000 runners each year. Since 1958 the RRCA has awarded championship events, through a competitive bidding process, at the National, Regional, and State levels.

The goal of this event series is to shine a spotlight on well-run RRCA member events and to award top performing runners in the open, masters (40+), grand masters (50+), and senior grand masters (60+) categories for both men and women. We are proud that the 2017 United Physical Therapy 49K Ultra is this year’s regional championship event; Humpy’s Marathon and the Skinny Raven Half Marathon are state championship events as well.

One of the best parts of RunFest is the bond created between the Anchorage Running Club and the Anchorage community. We are delighted that Humpy's Great Alaskan Ale House has returned after several years to sponsor both the marathon and the marathon relay, as well as generously provide a beer garden and some of the finish line refreshments. We send a hearty thanks to all of our sponsors!

Additionally, RunFest also relies on the hundreds of volunteers who willingly give up their time and energy year round to put on this event. RunFest is entirely supported by volunteers, from the people who hand out water during the races, to the Race Committee of the Anchorage Running Club. Thank you volunteers for your deeply appreciated contributions to our event.

This August runners and walkers, along with spectators, will gather in downtown Anchorage to celebrate the determination, fitness, and spirit of Anchorage. Be part of an event that unites a community. We urge you to get out and run this summer, and hope to see you at RunFest 2017!

Sincerely,

Sharron Fisherman
