Anchorage presented us with typical August weather on Sunday, starting with a cool, cloudy morning and morphing into a steady drizzle. For some, that was a runner’s blessing. James Miller fared well, lowering the massive record he set in last year in the United Physical Therapy 49K. His time of 3:26:55 cut 1:33 from last year’s effort. Congratulations James!
Abundant camaraderie and good will spread throughout the course. Spectators brought their signs as well as umbrellas. Local high school cross country teams offered water and Gatorade with enthusiasm and course entertainment carried on without missing a beat. Vying for the most enthusiasm of the day were the members of a local ice hockey team who womaned the finish line, bestowing well earned medals to all finishers, with spirited whoops and hollers and lots of dancing in between!
